FAQ

what is this?

pledgehound.org (formerly pledges.stunl.io) is a free tool that automatically tracks financial pledges made in reddit comments for animals in urgent need of rescue, foster, or adoption. it monitors multiple pet rescue subreddits 24/7 and combines all pledges per animal into one place.

how does it work?

every 2 hours, the system scans new comments across 9 subreddits, covering up to 14 days of posts per sub. it processes each comment it hasn't seen yet and determines if someone is pledging their own money. if so, it records the pledge amount, links it to the right animal, and updates the totals. no human reviews or approves anything, it's fully automatic.

what subreddits does it track?

currently tracking:

  • r/National_Pet_Adoption
  • r/rescuedogs
  • r/petsforadoptioninFL
  • r/cattledog_networking
  • r/UrgentShelterPets
  • r/AdoptableDogsTexas
  • r/animal_rescue_help
  • r/escue_network

i also have a subreddit for updates and discussion: r/PledgeHound

how do i pledge?

just comment on any post in one of the tracked subs. something like "pledge $25" or "$10 for this baby" or "putting in $20" - the platform understands natural language so you don't need any special format. it'll pick it up automatically within about 2 hours.

what if the same dog is posted across multiple subs?

the system matches animals across posts using shelter IDs first (like #A5761686), then by name + location. if someone pledges on a crosspost in r/rescuedogs and someone else pledges on the original in r/National_Pet_Adoption, both pledges show up on the same animal's page. it even catches typos in shelter IDs and missing letter prefixes.

what if a post has multiple dogs (like a euthanasia list)?

if someone comments "pledge $10" on a post listing 19 dogs, the pledge gets linked to all 19 dogs on that post. one comment covers all the animals.

does it handle duplicate pledges?

yes. if the same person pledges the same amount for the same animal on two different posts (like an original and a crosspost), the second one gets skipped so nothing gets double-counted.

can i see my own pledges?

yes - click "My Pledges", enter your reddit username, and it'll show every pledge you've made across all tracked subs with links to each comment.

does this collect or process any money?

no. this tool only tracks pledges - it does not collect, hold, or transfer any funds. pledges are honored directly between the pledger and the rescue organization. this platform just helps everyone see who pledged what for which animal.

how accurate is it?

the platform is tuned to only detect real personal pledges. it ignores vet bills, adoption fees, cost estimates, boost-only comments, and people reporting what others pledged. it's not perfect, but it runs at about 95%+ accuracy. if you spot an error, let me know.

does it track pledges on facebook?

no, only reddit. some networkers (like the San Antonio ACS posts) direct pledges to facebook groups - those won't appear here.

can you track facebook too?

not right now. facebook doesn't offer a way to programmatically read group posts and comments the way reddit does. it's something i'd like to add eventually but it's a much harder problem to solve technically. for now, only pledges made on reddit are tracked.

can i search for a specific animal?

yes, click the "Animals" tab and use the search bar at the top. you can search by animal name or shelter ID.

what about the rescue directories?

i maintain directories of approved rescue organizations for several shelter systems. you can find them under the "Rescues" dropdown in the header. currently i have directories for dallas, houston, orange county FL, LA county (all 7 shelters), NYC, modesto/stanislaus, and riverside/coachella valley. networkers can also add rescue contacts directly on each page. if you want a directory for a shelter system that's not listed, let me know.

any other tools?

i also built Still Here - an interactive 4D visualization of the block universe from mainstream physics. it lets you plot the worldlines of your pets (or people) through spacetime and zoom out from your personal timeline all the way to the scale of the entire universe.

the idea is simple: mainstream physics tells us there is no death - at least not in the usual sense that we people commonly think of it. your dog's entire life still exists in spacetime, every moment of it, permanently. death is distance, not destruction. Still Here helps you visualize that.

you can enter your pets' names and dates, see where their worldlines overlap with yours, and share the link with anyone. it's free, no account needed, and available in english, spanish, russian, and german.

who built this and why?

u/2dogs1man - i'm Val Polyakov, a mod at r/National_Pet_Adoption and a programmer who lost his two dogs. i kept seeing people struggle to keep track of pledges across dozens of posts and subs, so i built something to help. this is not a business, there's no catch. it costs money to run though (AI, proxies, servers) so if you find it useful there's a link at the bottom of the page to help keep it going.
